NEW SKIN CARE TECHNOLOGY
HELPS TO CONTROL ADULT BREAKOUTS

A three-step system from Hydrox-C™  works effectively
without harmful side effects to control skin breakouts
for all skin types and age groups.

Fort Worth, TX (March 25, 1999) - While most women say goodbye to frequent or extensive breakouts by the time they are in college, many adults in their 20s, 30s, 40s and even 50s, still experience breakouts of blackheads, whiteheads and pimples.
According to dermatologists' reports, women between the ages of 20 and 50 now account for more acne visits to dermatologists than any other age group.  Yet, there are some real concerns about the treatment options available to adult women.
"First, the vast majority of acne treatments is geared to teenage skin," says David Pollock, vice president of product development and a founder of Medi-Cell Laboratories.  "Then, there are prescription drugs that have serious side effects, including birth defects, and non-prescription products, such as those containing benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, resorcinol or salicylic acid, that are too irritating for people with sensitive skin to use.
The new technology we've developed for Hydrox-C™ products permit effective control of skin breakouts for all skin types without harmful side effects or skin irritation."
Acne is considered the most common skin disease in the United States, yet its exact cause is still unknown.  Breakouts develop in the oil-producing structures of the skin called pilosebaceous follicles, which are abundant on the face, chest, upper back and shoulders.
Scientists believe a hormone called androgen plays a role in breakouts, as it stimulates the sebum-producing glands.  One theory is that when hormone levels increase, the skin reacts by producing excess sebum (oils).  The follicle then gets clogged by sebum, dead skin cells, bacteria and hormones, which leads to swelling and the development of comedones, which are blackheads, whiteheads and papules (pimples).  Hormone levels, emotional stress, fatigue and cosmetics can aggravate the condition.
But whatever the trigger, Pollock says the three-step system from Hydrox-C is non-irritating and promotes natural healing.  The basis of the system is Hydrox-C's exclusive, patent pending Triple Action Vitamin C Complex™, a combination of three types of non-irritating vitamin C and a non-irritating alpha hydroxy acid.
"Some people mistakenly think if they feel stinging it is a sign a product is working, "Pollock says.  "What it really means is that the product is irritating.  Our technology works without being irritating."
According to Pollock, the first step in controlling breakouts is to keep the skin clean.  Hydrox-C Daily Skin Preparation™ is a gentle, exfoliating cleanser that thoroughly rids the skin of sebum (excessive oils), dead cells and other impurities without causing any irritation or microscopic abrasions to the skin.
"Mild acne can often be cleared up simply by cleansing the face once or twice daily with a non-oily cleanser," Pollock says.
For more stubborn conditions, Hydrox-C Age Lift Facial Concentrate™ is an intensive serum with 18% Triple Action Vitamin C Ccomplex that works to eliminate breakouts.  It can be used as an overnight treatment or in the mornings before makeup to gently, but thoroughly exfoliate dead skin cells and other impurities that can clog pores.  The vitamin C works as an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant to reduce bacteria, calm the skin, promote natural healing and increase the production of new cells.
Pollock says the last step in the system - a therapeutic moisturizer - is the one most neglected by women with skin breakouts.  "Most people think that if they have oily skin they don't need to use a moisturizer, which is not true," Pollock says.  "It is extremely important to maintain proper hydration throughout the skin's layers to keep it from drying and wrinkling."
Hydrox-C Intensive Cell Therapy™ is an ideal moisturizer for troubled skin because it does not clog pores and is enriched with vitamins, proteins and 21 botanical extracts that are instantly absorbed into the skin to hydrate and prevent fine lines and wrinkles.
"Breakouts can be devastating at any age, especially when an adult," Pollock says, "but it is very important to use safe, effective products that do not have harmful side effects or which irritate the skin when controlling this type of condition."
